Leaks were true: Google confirmed Thursday the launch of a new laptop marketed under its own brand and with its minimalist operating system, Chrome OS. It adopts a Chromebook pixels high resolution touch screen with 2560 x 1700 pixels on a 13 inch slab.
Google unveiled Thursday evening on the first laptop directly sold under its brand, the Chromebook pixels. Ambitious, the machine adopts a multi-touch screen display 2560 x 1700 pixels on a diagonal of 12.85 inches (32.6 cm) or 239 pixels per inch (ppi). It adopts a metal frame machined in one piece (unibody) anodized aluminum, a backlit keyboard, a touchpad glass and angular design that probably evoke some of the Apple Macbook Pro. Configuration is built around an Intel Core i5 Dual Core 1.8 Ghz, with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash memory dedicated to the storage.
The computer given to 16.2 mm and a weight of 1.52 kg, is available in two versions. The first readily available, simply a controller 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0. The second, scheduled for April, gets extra circuit 4G / LTE. The physical connection limit for its two USB 2.0 ports, a card reader SD / MMC, the duo headset / microphone and a mini-Displayport. An HD webcam (720p) is finally integrated over the touch screen. Autonomy it would amount to about five hours through a 59 Wh battery. Google indicates the presence of not two, but three microphones built into the frame, before they help eliminate noise during a conversation.
Beyond physical characteristics, Chromebook pixels differs from traditional PCs with the operating system, since Google has once again here's Chrome OS environment with direct access to all online services, whether storage (Drive), email (Gmail) or online office suite Google Docs also declined as applications into the system for use offline.
